Recipe 1: The Antioxidant-Omega Power Smoothie

As a therapist helping people living healthy with food allergies. Elika knows how important it is to find great tasting and healthy recipes.

This recipe is breakfast recipe, the logic being the it’s most commonly skipped meal of the day as people are in a hurry. This smoothie takes less than 2 minutes to make (and probably drink).
What are antioxidants?
Antioxidants help stop or prevent oxidation (the process in your body that causes cells to break down). Many believe that eating a good diet which is high in antioxidants will help prevent diseases like cancer, and stop infections. Dermatologists believe that they play a hand in slowing down the aging process.
What are omegas?
Omegas are fatty acids from fish. There is Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9 (collectively known as Omega 3s). Research shows that the Omega 3s are good for promoting health, preventing degenerative diseases, and helping with inflammatory diseases. Additionally, they have been shown to be great for the skin, reduce behavorial problems such as ADHD and help with depression and anxiety.

There is so much research out there about the importance of antioxidants and omegas but what if you just can’t take another supplement?

There is hope! The Antioxidant-Omega Power smoothie.

1/2 cup almond milk (you can use soy or non-fat milk instead)
1/4 cup acai juice (the less sugar the better; high in omega 3s)
1 scoop protein powder (I used Olympia Labs Protein Powder)
10 raw almonds (rich in antioxidants)
1 Tbsp chia seeds (great source of omega 3s)
2-3 cubes of ice (depending how cold you like it)
*blend all ingredients together and serve cold and enjoy.

Elika admits that she is not the biggest fan of protein powders because of the taste, but this was a quick and satisfying breakfast.
